After years and thousands of hours of hard work and dedication, Alex Breckheimer of Chilton finally made his dreams come true by being drafted to the MLB. He said seeing the community and his family come together to celebrate his accomplishment means the world to him.

Alex Breckheimer was selected in the 16th round out of the University of Kansas in the 2025 MLB Draft. On the second day of the draft, he was surrounded by family and friends at a local bar and pub. The pitcher said when he heard his name, all the stress he was feeling went away.

“When the Cardinals called me, we worked out a deal, and it all worked out,” said Alex Breckheimer. “I was just so happy, I kind of teared up a little bit, hugged my mom, hugged my dad, and just a lot of joy.”

Alex Breckheimer said baseball has grown in the state of Wisconsin because more facilities are being built that allow players to train year-round in this climate. However, he said there was a point on his junior varsity baseball team, when there wasn’t even enough people on the team to cover each position on the field.

“It makes me appreciate it more for sure,” said Alex Breckheimer. “Especially like high school, like back to like freshman year, not everyone was the greatest and you just kind of have to work through everything and just be happy with what you got.”

His father, Randy Breckheimer, said he has been there every step of the way for his son. He said when he looks at Alex Breckheimer on the mound, he sees a competitor that wants to win every pitch, but it took a community to help make his son’s dream come true.

“[When] he comes home and if he needs guys to bat against him or catch or throw with them, everybody’s lining up just to help out around this community that they can. It’s totally awesome support around here,” said Randy Breckheimer.

Alex Breckheimer will be heading to Jupiter, Florida to do his physical and sign his contract, before being assigned to a Minor League team. He said he plans on throwing hard and giving the Cardinals organization the best he has to offer.

“I’m excited to get back out on the mound,” said Alex Breckheimer. “I’m excited to play again, meet a new team, meet new people and just get after it.”
