PIPPA PASSES — Prestonsburg pushed its opponent on a neutral field but came up short as Hazard held on to win 2-1 during the 14th vs. 15th Challenge at Alice Lloyd College on Saturday, May 3. 

Hazard scored first and never trailed. However, Prestonsburg challenged the opposing team from the 14th Region. 

Hazard pushed across one run in the bottom half of the third inning. Then, extending its lead one inning later, Hazard plated another run during the fifth frame. 

Prestonsburg managed to cross home plate and cut Hazard’s lead in half during the fifth inning but was held scoreless over its last two at-bats.

Max Pelfrey started on the mound for Hazard and earned the win. Pelfrey pitched the first three innings for the Bulldogs.

Following Pelfrey, Isiah Johnson and Talon Goins each pitched in relief for perennial 14th Region title contender Hazard. 

Pelfrey and Johnson posted two strikeouts apiece for the Bulldogs. 

Brody Napier pitched a complete game for the Blackcats. Napier recorded two strikeouts. 

Hazard scored two runs on six hits. Trace Kincaid (two hits, one RBI), Gaige Logan (two hits), William Shoptaw (one hit, one RBI) and Clint Davidson (one hit) each made an impact offensively for the Bulldogs. Kincaid and Shoptaw drove in one run apiece while Logan doubled. 

Prestonsburg plated one run on four hits. Kain Patton (one hit), Barrett Hunter (one hit, one RBI), Kaden Allen (one hit) and Brady Allen (one hit) each contributed at the plate for the Blackcats. Hunter drove in Prestonsburg’s lone run while Allen doubled.Â
