A fan’s fall onto the field from the right field bleachers at PNC Park during Wednesday’s Pirates-Cubs game resulted in a scary scene.
After Andrew McCutchen hit a go-ahead double in the bottom of the seventh inning, the fan, sitting in what appeared to be the first row of the right field bleachers, fell from his seat and onto the warning track.
Another fan jumped onto the field to help.

The fan was attended to for around five minutes by stadium personnel, according to the Associated Press, as players knelt and prayed.
Pittsburgh Public Safety posted on X hours after the Pirates’ win that the fan was in critical condition.
The group added that it was investigating what happened at the ballpark.
The Pirates said they were sending prayers to the man and his family.
“Tonight, during the seventh inning of the game at PNC Park, an adult male fell from the right field bleachers onto the field of play,” the team said. “Pittsburgh EMS, as well as the Pirates and Cubs athletic training teams and other PNC Park personnel reacted and responded immediately and administered care. He was transported to Allegheny General Hospital. No further information is available at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family.”
Pirates manager Derek Shelton said after the game that he and Cubs skipper Craig Counsell both saw the scary incident unfold.
“Even though it’s 350 feet away or whatever it is, I mean the fact of how it went down and then laying motionless while the play is going on, I mean [Cubs manager] Craig [Counsell] saw it, I saw it. We both got out there,” Shelton told reporters after the game. “I think the umpires saw it because of the way it kicked. It’s extremely unfortunate. That’s an understatement.”
