SPARKS, Nev. (KOLO) – Golden Eagle Sports Complex is an international destination this week.
Hundreds of girls are in Sparks for a baseball tournament.
But they’re not watching, they’re playing.
Baseball For All is responsible for bringing this tournament to Northern Nevada.
Justine Siegal is the organization’s founder and started the program because girls like the game just as much as boys do.
There are teams from all over the United States in town this week. There’s also players from Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
The tournament features 53 teams, more than 550 players, and the competitors range from five years old to 18 years old.
“They’re all trying to win the championship but also they’re making friends and building community,” Siegal said. “This is the week they look forward to every year. They’re not the girl who plays in the league now. Now they’re just ballplayers and it means everything to them they can just get to play baseball.”
The national tournament runs through Thursday.
