D’Angelo Ortiz earned a promotion in the Boston Red Sox system on Wednesday.

Ortiz, the son of Red Sox legend and Hall of Famer David Ortiz, was promoted from the Florida Complex League Red Sox to Low-A Salem. In 51 games, Ortiz had a slash line of 273/.384/.689.

The 21-year-old can play first and third base, and made 38 starts at first with the other 13 coming at third.

The Red Sox drafted Ortiz in the 19th round (567th overall) on Day 3 of the 2024 MLB Draft.

“It means a lot to the organization but I want to make it clear that D’Angelo is a prospect,” amateur scouting director Devin Pearson Pearson said. “The reason we selected him is the result of a relationship that our area scout (Willie Romay) has had with the player for a long time. We had him at a workout recently and got to interact with him. It felt like it was a good add to the organization. It’s a plus his dad is David Ortiz but we drafted him as a prospect.”

Ortiz officially signed with the Red Sox the month in July 2024.
