Lawrence Butler Heads to the Bench

Athletics outfielder Lawrence Butler is absent from the starting lineup ahead of Wednesday’s game against the Texas Rangers. This will be a rare rest day for Butler who is idle against left-handed starter Patrick Corbin. The A’s are going to play matchups here with Butler and Tyler Soderstrom taking a seat. Butler is slashing .195/244/.390 against left-handed pitching this season, so it’s not a bad idea to pull him out of the lineup. In his absence, Colby Thomas will cover center field and bat sixth on Wednesday.–Andy Webb
