Eugenio Suarez got caught taking in the quiet aftermath of a gut-punch Arizona Diamondbacks loss to the Houston Astros.

Not only was it a ninth-inning, go-ahead single by former D-back Christian Walker that stung on Wednesday, but a completed sweep that sent Arizona to the road with the trade deadline coming before they play again at Chase Field.

“I was a little bit pissed because I think we should have won that game,” Suarez told reporters before volunteering a comment that said it wasn’t just about that one loss. “It is what it is. I think we got to take a day off tomorrow and have a good series in Pittsburgh. It’s a lot of things right now going on in my mind. I don’t know what’s going to happen.

“My heart is still here …. I’m part of this team and I care about my off-day tomorrow and then my play — do my best in Pittsburgh Friday, trying to win games.”

Why are Eugenio Suarez trade rumors so active for the Diamondbacks?

Suarez is widely regarded as the most valuable trade asset to be had at the deadline, which comes at 3 p.m. MST next Thursday, July 31.

And because he is playing for a 50-53 team that appears close to having a fire sale with himself, there is no avoiding the reality that he could be on the move in a week. Suarez, first baseman Josh Naylor and pitchers Zac Gallen and Merrill Kelly lead the list of D-backs players in contract years.

“I don’t want to talk … about that right now because there’s nothing happened yet and obviously this team had a part of my heart right right here and like I say, I feel like I’m home,” Suarez said. “This team, it mean(s) a lot to me and all the last two years being with my career changed everything here in Arizona. I am who I am right now because the last two years being great and this is … a lot about this team.

“I go day by day, and if something happen(s), let’s wait for it. Like I say, I don’t want to think about it. I don’t want to make anything as change. It is what it is, and I just want to just think about Friday.”

Suarez leads MLB with 86 RBIs and is fourth with 36 home runs.

He has been tied in MLB trade rumors to the Seattle Mariners, Cincinnati Reds, Chicago Cubs and New York Yankees.
