Former Mahwah High School baseball standout Kyle Teel hit his first big-league home run on Wednesday night.

Teel’s solo home run in the top of the sixth inning cut the White Sox‘ deficit against the Rays to 6-5. Two innings later, he hit an RBI single to start a six-run rally. Chicago won the game 11-9.

Teel went 4 for 5 at the plate, upping his batting average to .277 since being called up to the majors in early June. He also scored three runs.

The White Sox are now 37-66, the worst record in the American League.

After the game, the White Sox posted a photo and video on social media of Teel receiving the home-run ball from a young fan who caught it.
