The Los Angeles Dodgers have signed free agent first baseman Matt Gorski to a minor league deal, per the team’s transaction log.

Gorski, 27, appeared in 15 games with the Pittsburgh Pirates this season, going 8-for-41 (.195) with two home runs and four runs batted in. He had an OPS of .605 with 16 strikeouts.

Gorski was optioned to Triple-A on May 17, and just over a week later was placed on the minor league injured list. On June 19, he was transferred to the minor league 60-day injured list. His current health status is unknown.

The Pirates designated Gorski for assignment on July 11, and he cleared waivers and was released by the team. Less than two weeks later, he’s getting an opportunity with one of baseball’s best teams.

Gorski was initially a second round pick by the Pirates in 2019. He worked his way up through the minor leagues, and was ranked as high as the team’s No. 17 overall prospect in 2023, per MLB Pipeline.

The right-hander appeared in 152 career games at Triple-A, slashing .254/.313/.509 with 30 home runs and 89 runs batted in. However, he wasn’t able to translate that success in his brief stint at the MLB level, and Pittsburgh moved on from him earlier this month to make room for right-handed pitcher Yohan Ramirez on the 40-man roster.

Gorski will presumably report to Triple-A Oklahoma City, where he’ll provide organizational depth, assuming he’s healthy.
