The Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox took the wind out of the Brewster Whitecaps sails in the race for the East Division championship with a 9-3 win on the road at Stony Brook Field on Thursday.

Chris Hacopian (Maryland) went 3-for-5 and scored twice, while Jack Arcamone (Richmond) went 2-for-5, including a solo home run, and tallied three RBIs to propel the Red Sox (16-12-3) back into the win column. A.J. Nessler (Pittsburgh) drove in a pair of runs and scored once.

The Red Sox opened up a 5-0 lead before the Whitecaps (16-14-1), who have dropped two straight, were on the board in the third inning.

The Whitecaps were within two runs before the Red Sox added four insurance markers in the seventh inning behind savvy base running to push the game out of reach.

Brady Hamilton (Wichita State) and Joshua Landry combined to give up just four hits, three runs (two earned) and nine strikeouts. Hamilton earned the win after he allowed just three hits and three runs in five innings.

Brendan Lawson (Florida) and Adam Magpoc (Boston College) were a combined 0-for-6 at the plate but drove in all three runs. Lawson had two RBIs.

In other Cape Cod Baseball League action:

Cotuit Kettleers 11, Hyannis Harbor Hawks 0 (8 inn.)

The Kettleers (13-16-2) blanked the Harbor Hawks, whose playoff chances took a hit after a third straight loss.

Max Haug (George Washington) gave up just four hits and struck out two in four innings before handing the ball over to Wyatt Halvorson (Arizona State) in relief. Halvorson allowed just one hit and two walks, while he struck out six batters on his way to picking up the win on the mound.

Gabe Camacho (UC San Diego) recorded a pair of hits for the Harbor Hawks (12-16-3), who only had five hits in the game.

Cincinnati’s Jack Natili paced the Cotuit offense with a grand slam in a seven-run eighth inning. He finished 2-for-4 at the plate with four RBIs and a run scored. Zac Von Schlegell and Caden Bogenpohl (Missouri State) both had two hits, two RBIs and scored once.

Ryne Farber (Texas State) went 0-for-2 but was walked three times and scored a trio of runs.

Wareham Gatemen 8, Orleans Firebirds 1

Behind a two-run shot from Brayden Randle (Mississippi) and a solo homer by Caden McDonald (Florida), the Gatemen scored eight unanswered runs to help extend their win streak out to three games.

Aris Rivera (Central Florida) went 3-for-3 and drew a walk, tallied three RBIs and a run scored, while Chase Krewson (Central Florida) and Christopher Ramirez (Cal Baptist) finished with identical lines, going 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored for the Gatemen (17-14).

The Gatemen’s McDonald improved to a 3-1 record on the mound after he gave up just a hit, two walks and struck out three in five innings.

The Firebirds (15-14-2) saw their three-game win streak come to an end as they were held to just three hits and two walks. Tyler Myatt (Walter State CC) drove in the lone run in the seventh inning to break up the shutout.
