Charlotte Knights 6, Louisville Redbirds 5 (Statcast box)
The Knights (19-20) were down early in the game, but rallied back in the fourth and fifth innings to take the lead behind starter Tyler Schweitzer, who ended up earning the win to take the series against the Redbirds (21-16).

Schweitzer gave up just three hits, but unfortunately two of those were home runs. Tyler was otherwise solid, and had 14 swings-and-misses, which was the second-most in all of Triple-A on Sunday. Chase Plymell was excellent out of the bullpen for the sixth and seventh. He didn’t allow any hits, and struck out three batters to hold off Louisville. Penn Murfee and Keone Kela each gave up a run, but the offense did enough to stay ahead so those runs didn’t matter as much.

The Knights really started to get the bats going in the fifth, and Andrew Lipcius kicked off a three-run rally with an RBI single to take the lead. Kyle Teel tied the game on a live drive to right, and Tristan Gray received an RBI on a wild pitch strikeout.

The strange scoring didn’t stop there, either. Lipcius later scored in the seventh on a balk, and Kyle Teel scored on the next at-bat … from yet another wild pitch. Whatever it takes, I guess!

On top of the Charlotte win, our old Knights pal, Tim Elko, was officially promoted to the big leagues this weekend, and got his first MLB hit, which just so happened to also be a three-run blast to left. Elko effectively won the game for the Sox — and the series! Welcome to the show, Tim!

Birmingham Barons vs Columbus Clingstones — Postponed due to rain

Winston-Salem Dash 5, Bowling Green Hot Rods 3
The Dash (12-21) were able to get the win on Sunday to tie the series at three against the Hot Rods (18-15). Jesse Scholtens and Tommy Vail split the game, and gave up seven hits and just three runs. Vail’s eight Ks paved the way for him and Winston-Salem to get the win over his five innings.

The offense put up 11 hits as a team, and converted on a third of their opportunities with runners in scoring position (4-for-12). Braden Montgomery has been excellent in May and has gotten a hit in about 40% of his 34 at-bats, including two more on Sunday with another double. The other extra-base hits came from Sam Antonacci (triple) and Arxy Hernández, who blasted a home run in the seventh to add some insurance runs for Vail.

Kannapolis Cannon Ballers 3, Carolina Mudcats 0
The Ballers (18-15) redeemed themselves from Saturday night’s beat down, but still dropped the series to the Mudcats (22-10) in their 3-0 win. Kanny went with a bullpen game Sunday, with all pitchers throwing for two efficient innings apiece, except for Carlton Perkins who had the final inning to earn the save. The Kannapolis pitching staff gave up just five total hits as a team, walked five batters (four from Kaleb Sophy alone), and struck out 11, though Manuel Veloz would snag the W.

Sophy had gotten into hot water with all those walks in the top of the fifth, but thankfully George Wolkow launched a perfect throw home to get the runner out for a double play and avoid the sac fly.

The Ballers offense had seven hits as a team and did just enough to hold the win, and thankfully Kanny had solid pitching today to back them up. They left nine on base as a team and went 2-for-9 with runners in scoring position. Caleb Bonemer had two hits and an RBI, and Miguel Santos accounted for another RBI while getting on base twice.
