WEST CHESTER – In baseball, if a team scores runs in the first five innings pf a six inning game, they should be in good shape. That was the case Thursday night at Hoopes Park as the Jays scored runs in bunches and held off the Whip, 11-7, in a six inning game that was called after six innings because of darkness in a West Chester Adult Baseball League tilt.

The Jays (14-7) pounded out 12 hits against four different Whip (6-14) pitchers with Louisville University star, Tague Davis, unloading a three run homer and former Kennett High School product, Mac Larkin, who is headed to Randolph Macon University in the fall, coming through with three hits.

“I am feeling real good at the plate right now and seeing the ball well,” Larkin said. “The pitches seem big to me right now and it is just so much fun to play in this league on this team because Coach Riccardo (Jeff), is a great guy and we all get along so well. It is a real good experience.”

The Whip actually had a 5-2 lead after the first inning as they scored five runs on three hits in the bottom of the first inning against Jays starter, Aiden Casey.

But, the lead did not last long. The Jays plated three runs on Davis’ homer to right field to tie the game 5-5, after two innings.

The Jays broke things open from there.while the Whip bats cooled off. The Jays scored a single run in the top the third inning and then plated five more runs in the top of the fourth inning.

Larkin ripped an RBI triple and Drew Brown, Eric MacCluen and Jack Reichlin all ripped RBI singles in the fourth inning to give the Jays an 11-5 lead.

“We are really hitting the ball well right now,” Jays manager, Jeff Riccardo said. “We do not have many holes in the lineup and the way Mac Larkin is hitting right now is something to see. He went to a fifth year Baseball Academy because he missed his senior year at Kennett due to injury and he just worked and worked on his game and he is really hot right now.”

Casey left after four innings of work and West Chester University product, Will Conrad, came on in relief for the Jays. Conrad retired the Whip in order in the bottom of the fifth inning but ran into trouble in the sixth.

Conrad ran into some control problems in the sixth when he walked in two Whip runs and walked five batters in the inning. But, Conrad retired Cam Abele with the bases loaded to end the game and the Jays had a tidy 11-7 win, their fourth win in a row.

“We have gotten great pitching all season,” Riccardo said. “And the way we are hitting right now, we are going to be a tough team in the playoffs. guys can’t wait to get up to bat right now.”
