There were already signs that San Diego Padres analyst Mark Grant was a nose-picker, and now we have confirmation.

The Padres may have lost to the St. Louis Cardinals 9-7, but Grant picked a winner. During the game in St. Louis Thursday night, the Cardinals TV booth checked in on road broadcasters Don Orsillo and Mark Grant.

At least he didn’t eat it.

“Don Orsillo on the right, Mark Grant on the left,” said Cardinals play-by-play voice Chip Caray. “Mark had a terrific career as a Major League pitcher. And in case you wondered, was not the model for the Swinging Friar, the Padres logo.”

The genuine praise for the Padres booth from Caray and Brad Thompson was nice. But they failed to mention the most important thing: the fact that they were watching Grant stick a finger up his nose, pull something out and flick it in real time.

And depending on how forceful that flick was, there may have been some fans in the firing zone. If you were sitting in front of the away broadcast booth at the Cardinals-Padres game Thursday night, give your hair a good washing. Maybe let this be a sign to proceed with caution anytime you’re sitting in front of Grant, because he’s got a thing for nose-picking.

It was three years ago when the Padres TV broadcast caught then Minnesota Twins pitcher Dylan Bundy picking his nose. Bundy was really digging deep and no one enjoyed seeing it more than Grant who was rooting him on from the booth.

Three years later, it was Grant’s opportunity to pick his nose on live TV. Unfortunately for Grant, Caray and Thompson didn’t give him the same type of encouragement that he gave Bundy.
