Ahmed played 12 seasons in MLB and spent the majority of his career with the Arizona Diamondbacks. He won two National League Gold Glove awards in 2018 and 2019 while playing for the Diamondbacks.
Arizona ultimately released Ahmed after the 2023 season, and he bounced around four different teams for the last two seasons of his career. He initially joined the San Francisco Giants for the 2024 season before the Dodgers signed him at the end of July.
Los Angeles signed Ahmed while shortstops Mookie Betts and Miguel Rojas were on the sidelines. Ahmed started in 14 games at shortstop and appeared in 17 total games for the Dodgers, slashing .229/.245/.292 and hitting one go-ahead home run against the Giants.

The Dodgers designated Ahmed for assignment at the same time they optioned center fielder Andy Pages and placed catcher Austin Barnes on the injured list. These were corresponding moves to Los Angeles recalling Hunter Feduccia and reactivating Tommy Edman and Max Muncy from the IL.
Ahmed cleared waivers and elected free agency before signing with the San Diego Padres to finish the 2024 season. He appeared in two regular season games and was not included on their postseason roster.
This season, he signed to a minor league contract with the Texas Rangers. Ahmed only played in five games before the Rangers sent him outright to Triple-A Round Rock.
From there, Ahmed elected free agency but did not sign another contract. After 12 seasons in MLB, Ahmed will now get to spend more time with his three children and wife, Amanda.
