The Texas Rangers released pitcher Luke Jackson, per a late night announcement by the team on Friday.
Jackson was designated for assignment on Friday when the club activated pitcher Jon Gray from the 60 day injured list. He apparently cleared waivers.
Jackson started the season as the team’s closer, didn’t perform well in that role, and had largely been relegated to middle relief work of late. In 35 innings, he put up a 4.11 ERA and 5.01 FIP.
Jackson has reportedly been signed by the Detroit Tigers to join their beleaguered bullpen. Not often that a player gets released and then joins a team that has a better record, but there you go.
