After their first SEC win of the season on Friday night at Texas A&M, the Missouri Tigers weren’t satisfied with just one victory in College Station.
They weren’t even satisfied with a series win, either.
That’s right. In one of the most surprising series results in all of college baseball this season, Mizzou, coming in at 0-24 in the SEC completed the sweep on the road against a Texas A&M that was desperate for their postseason lives.
Let’s get to the series recap:
Friday’s 9-6 comeback win:

Saturday’s 4-1 win:
In Mizzou’s best pitching performance of the season, all the Tigers’ offense needed was at least two runs — and they got that in the Top of the 1st inning with an RBI groundout by Kaden Peer, followed by a solo HR by Chris Patterson.
On the mound, Sam Horn set the tone with 2.2 scoreless innings to go along with five strikeouts. Horn probably would have had a longer outing if it wasn’t for a long rain delay. However, Tony Nuebeck came in relief to produce 3.1 scoreless innings with four strikeouts to record his first win of the season.
Mizzou still led 2-0 entering the Top of the 8th, and the Tigers tacked on insurance runs in the 8th and 9th innings to grab a 4-0 lead.
The Aggies were able to make it interesting in the bottom of the 9th as Mizzou couldn’t quite get the shutout, but Brock Lucas recorded his first save of the season striking out Ben Poyo with the bases loaded.
Sunday’s 10-1 blowout win:
Kick them while they’re down, right? That’s exactly what Mizzou did to Texas A&M on Sunday afternoon.
The Tigers got out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st with a solo home run by Jackson Lovich, his 11th of the season.
In another impressive pitching performance, redshirt freshman LHP Wil Libbert tossed five innings allowing just one run on just one hit and five strikeouts.
Texas A&M cut Mizzou’s lead to 3-1 with a solo home run by Caden Sorrell in the bottom of the 4th inning, but the Tigers answered with seven unanswered runs — scoring three runs in the 6th and 7th inning with RBI from Jackson Lovich and Kaden Peer to break the game open.
Relieving Wil Libbert on the mound was Josh McDevitt, who recorded his first save of the season. McDevitt tossed four shutout innings and only allowed one hit.
Mizzou finished off the sweep in convincing fashion with back-to-back two-hitters from the pitching staff.
What it all means:
Nationally, the viewpoint is going to be, “What is wrong with Texas A&M?” That’s fair considering they were the preseason No. 1 team in the country and will now (more than likely) miss the NCAA Tournament. Sometimes, however, you have to give credit to Mizzou. It obviously hasn’t been the season Kerrick Jackson’s club wanted, and injuries are definitely due to that, but there have been signs of improvement with this team despite the losses coming into this series. The Tigers finally translated that into the win column, and they deserved this sweep.
For a team that has been injured all season – and certainly has had to suffer growing pains in some spots – Missouri just went to a preseason No. 1 team loaded with talent and swept Texas A&M fair and square. Mizzou was the better team, wanted the wins, and deserved all three!

Overall Picture:
There is still a long way to go for Mizzou Baseball to become a competitive program in the SEC, but this sweep on the road over Texas A&M could potentially be a turning point in hopes of taking a big step forward next season.
There is some young talent on this team, and it showed this weekend in College Station. Now it’s just a matter of staying healthy, being consistent, and putting it all together.
