Logan Davidson has a new home in professional baseball.
The former Clemson shortstop was claimed off waivers by the Houston Astros on Friday after being designated for assignment by the Oakland Athletics earlier in the week. He’s been optioned to Triple-A Sugar Land, where he’ll continue his season with the Space Cowboys.

Davidson made his MLB debut with Oakland on May 24 and appeared in nine games, going 3-for-20 with a double, two RBIs, and a run scored. Prior to that, he was producing solid numbers in Triple-A Las Vegas, slashing .263 with seven home runs and an .809 OPS over 73 games. His versatility has become a key asset in pro ball, as he’s played all infield positions, left field, and served as a designated hitter.
Drafted 29th overall by the A’s in 2019, Davidson has played 556 minor league games with a .257 career average, 57 home runs, and 269 RBIs.
At Clemson, Davidson was a three-year starter and one of the program’s most productive switch-hitters, posting a .290 average with 42 homers and 37 steals. He and his father, Mark Davidson—who played for the Astros from 1989–91—are the first father-son duo in Clemson history to both reach the majors.
