After a first-half characterized by stellar pitching and team-wide offensive struggles, the Rangers have ridden a strong stretch of play back into the thick of the playoff hunt the week before the trade deadline.
Marcus Semien kept the good times rolling Saturday night with a walk-off single to beat the Atlanta Braves and clinch the team’s fourth consecutive series victory. That includes series wins over the division-leading Astros and Tigers, plus a sweep of the Athletics.
Texas has won its last five games and surged to just half a game out of the AL wild card places. In the division, the Rangers gained ground and are just five games behind the Astros after Houston lost to the A’s Saturday.
