We start writing these game recaps before the game is over — obviously, we want to get it out as soon as we can — and to try and change the Tigers’ fortunes, I have decided that today’s will be entirely in haiku form. Someone tried this a few years ago and I can’t remember if it worked or not, but I figured it was worth a shot.

Losing, getting old.

Trying to not get swept? Yes!

Pure desperation.

Sunday afternoon,

Summer sun was torturous.

I pray for winter.

Game four of four now.

Can Tigers change their stripes? Yes!

Detroit 10, Jays 4.

Tigers: Flaherty.

Not great lately. Worrisome.

Walks a lot. Dingers.

Toronto: Scherzer.

Not dominant anymore?

Class guy. Fiery. (Old.)

First inning, Blue Jays

A pair of two-out singles

Strikeout! No damage.

Early on, Max great.

Happy forty-first birthday!

Then, bottom of third…

Dingler, Meadows. Yes!

Two on, then two popouts. No!

Gleyber. Three-run. Woo!

Flaherty? Real nice.

Four singles through four innings.

How far could he go?

Bo Bichette annoys;

Endless fouls inflate pitch counts.

Love to have that guy.

Jack goes six shutout.

Five hits, no runs, seven whiffs.

Let’s see more of this!

Holton starts seventh.

Two outs but leaves two on base.

Hanifee! One pitch.

Max goes seven strong.

Eleven strikeouts. Vintage.

Aging like fine wine.

Hanifee the eighth,

A one-out Bichette double.

Again, no problem.

Bottom-eight add-on.

Meadows singles, then… ¡Javy!

Double; it’s four-nil.

Báez steals third,

Torres plates him for fifth run.

Five runs! Is this real?!

Runners, corners, Greene:

Single to right, sixth run scores.

Tork single… SEVEN!!

Dam breaks. Rout is on.

More score. Fans rejoice. Tide turns.

Are we… good again?

“Cool Hand” Luke Jackson

New guy from Texas in ninth.

All over the place.

Walks, singles, three runs.

Enns brought in for final out.

‘Nother run. Come on!

Final strikeout, yay!

Losing streak’s over! Hooray!

Can this continue?

It’s a long season.

Stretches like this will happen.

Sports are meaningless.

Final score: Tigers 10, Blue Jays 4
