Nashville Sounds 3, Charlotte Knights 2 (10 innings) (Statcast box)
The Knights (49-52) held the Sounds (59-11) down through nine innings to keep the game tied at one, but our old pal Bobby Dalbec decided to call game with a walk-off, two-run bomb in the bottom of the 10th to take the series and defeat Charlotte, 3-2.
Both teams put up eight hits, though Knights pitchers walked five compared to Nashville’s one and gave up two home runs, though they did strike out one more batter (nine) than the Sounds. Will Robertson had a big night, going 3-for-4, all of which were extra-base hits: two doubles and a triple. Andre Lipcius also contributed two hits and drove in Robertson on an RBI double in the first inning after he had ended up on third for with his triple.
Outside of the run scored in the 10th on an error, the Charlotte offense didn’t score again. The Sounds were able to tie it up in the fourth on a homer that ultimately forced the extra inning, as there was no run support in sight. The bullpen was managing well through the first nine innings, and gave up just four hits, but Wikelman González struggled in the 10th and ended up with his first loss with the walk-off dinger to Dalbec.

Birmingham Barons 4, Montgomery Biscuits 0
The Barons (57-39) posted seven hits against the Biscuits (49-47) and went 3-for-12 with runners in scoring position, scoring four runs to shut out Montgomery and take their fifth game of the series. Fresh off of the injured list, DJ Gladney went 2-for-4 and accounted for the first run of the game with an RBI double to left, and drove in another in the eighth to tack on an insurance run for his second RBI.
Rikuu Nishida also drove in one of the runs on his own RBI double in the seventh, and the fourth and final run was thanks to the Biscuits, as they walked in Matt Hogan for the extra run support.
Riley Gowens had the start and was excellent in his five innings, giving up just two hits and walking one while striking out seven to earn his seventh win of the year. The bullpen was just as solid, and shut down Montgomery for the remaining four innings: two hits, two walks, and two strikeouts.

In other news, Dash outfielder Braden Montgomery was promoted to the Double-A Birmingham Barons on Sunday. Braden has progressed through the system quite quickly in his first professional season, and is slashing .260/.348/.445 with a .793 OPS in 69 games (254 at-bats) with the High-A Dash.
Carolina Mudcats 4, Kannapolis Cannon Ballers 0
The Cannon Ballers (45-51) out-hit the Mudcats (55-37) by three (6-3), but Carolina was more efficient and defeated Kannapolis, 4-0, to take the series. The Ballers went 2-for-8 with runners in scoring position and loaded the bases in the top of the eighth, but could not manage a hit in the clutch for the life of them.
Righthander Ricardo Brizuela made his 16th start of the season, and things fell off the rails fast. He lasted just two outs into the first inning. He walked the first batter of the game and quickly loaded the bases with back-to-back base hits, and then proceeded to walk in the first run of the game. Brizuela gave up three earned on two hits and two walks, and also hit a batter to re-load the bases before exiting the game.
The bullpen was slightly better, and Jesús Mendez relieved Brizuela with 2 1⁄3 scoreless with three strikeouts. Gabriel Rodríguez was the long reliever for four innings after that, and allowed one run on one hit and two walks and struck out four, but Brizuela was still given the loss as the offense was not helpful Sunday afternoon.
