BRISTOL, Tenn. (WCYB) — Bristol Motor Speedway and Major League Baseball officially announced on Friday that the Atlanta Braves and the Cincinnati Reds will play at Bristol Motor Speedway in 2025.

The MLB Speedway Classic ’25 will be Saturday, August 2.

“Big day in Tennessee. Really exciting for our state,” said Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee. “I’m happy to be here to celebrate with Major League Baseball and NASCAR, with Tennesseans and Americans who are interested in a really iconic and historic event.”

In front of a good crowd of baseball and racing fans across the state, MLB Network’s Greg Amsinger and FOX’s Jamie Little blessed the crowd with an introduction and announcement of the big game – along with a video collage of some of the biggest names in baseball and racing.

Braves great Chipper Jones and Reds great Eric Davis were in attendance. NASCAR drivers Chase Elliott, Ross Chastain, and retired NASCAR driver Kevin Harvick. Additionally, Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee, Speedway Motorsports President Marcus Smith, and BMS President and General Manager Jerry Caldwell were there for the announcement.

“To see NASCAR and MLB pull together, I think this is a great platform for that. I think our fan bases fit naturally together,” said Bristol Motor Speedway President and General Manager, Jerry Caldwell. “Those that have been to MLB events, it has to be done in a first class manner. That’s the way we do everything, and we do, as well. We’ll make sure that it’s a great experience for the fans.”

For 20 years, the speedway has carried the phrase ‘It’s Bristol Baby.’ Now coming in 2025, Bristol Motor Speedway shows that there’s nothing it cannot do. From concerts, to monster trucks and football games – the Last Great Coliseum will now open its venue to the game of baseball.

The game set to air on FOX, will mark the first MLB American or National League game ever played in the state of Tennessee.

“We’re excited to bring people in Tennessee to a Major League Baseball game for the first time in their state, in their territory,” said MLB Vice President of Global Events, Jeremiah Yolkut. “So rather than the fan who comes to our ballparks, we’re bringing a ballpark to them in Tennessee. We’re excited for that.”

The game will be the second professional sporting event outside of racing held at the track, but the first regular season game. The Washington Commanders and Philadelphia Eagles played a preseason NFL game at BMS in 1961.

In 2016, the Tennessee Vols and Virginia Tech Hokies played at Bristol Motor Speedway, and that event set a record for the largest crowd at an NCAA football game at 156,990.

Now the track will clash with the world of baseball – making for another historic night of bright lights.

“Both clubs from the inception of the idea and then playing in it have really leaned in on what this event is going to be,” said Yolkut. “We’ve worked with them. We’re working with the Braves on All-Star. We’ve had a Cincinnati All-Star game not too long ago. So we’re very familiar with both clubs and we have no doubt that together we’re going to make some magic here in Bristol.”

The event will be considered a Reds home date. Pre-sales tickets for the Speedway Classic will begin this September and will include early access purchase opportunities for Atlanta Braves and Cincinnati Reds season ticket holders, as well as Bristol Motor Speedway racing ticket holders.
