CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Guardians’ first game without closer Emmanuel Clase took a dramatic turn late Monday night at Progressive Field. Cade Smith blew a save opportunity, and ex-Guardians infielder Tyler Freeman drove in the go-ahead run in the ninth inning as the Rockies handed Cleveland an 8-6 loss.
After being held scoreless for six innings by Colorado starter Bradley Blalock, Cleveland’s offense erupted in the seventh when Bo Naylor delivered a pinch-hit three-run home run off Rockies reliever Jake Bird to tie the game.
