Danny Jansen will play for his first team not in the American League East.

The Milwaukee Brewers are finalizing a deal to acquire the catcher from the Tampa Bay Rays, ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported on Monday.

In 73 games for Tampa Bay this season, Jansen .204 with 11 home runs, 29 RBI and a .389 slugging percentage.

Jansen has spent his entire MLB career in the AL East. He played his first seven seasons with the Toronto Blue Jays before being traded to the Boston Red Sox in 2024. The Rays signed the veteran to a one-year deal in December.

Jansen made MLB history while with the Red Sox when he became the league’s first player to play for two teams in the same game. A game against the Blue Jays in June was suspended while Jansen was with Toronto. By the time it resumed in August, Boston acquired the catcher.

Other than that, Jansen’s brief two-month stint with the Red Sox was rather forgettable, hitting just .188 with three homers, six RBI and a .623 OPS in 30 games.

The Rays are in a bit of a skid, having lost seven of their last 10 games and are just outside of the AL Wild Card standings.

The Brewers, meanwhile, sit second place in the National League Central.
