You won’t believe how unproductive Texas sports are the day after their team loses. Maybe you will, but I sure didn’t see this coming.
If you know me, you know I’m a big sports fan. I’m also a total homer. My teams are the Cowboys, Longhorns, Rangers, Mavs, and Stars.
Championships Are Rare—but the Hope Never Dies
While the Rangers recently won their first World Series in 2023 (finally), it had been a long time since one of my teams won it all. That would be the Mavs back in 2011. The Longhorns, Stars, and Mavs have been close to winning it all since then, but almost only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades.

Don’t get me wrong – I’m thankful each team I pull for has won a championship in my lifetime. But I feel for the younger fans who have been let down time after time. Especially Cowboy fans under the age of 35. It’s been a frustrating few decades for us fans of The Star.
So, given the fact that Texas sports fans are among the most unproductive the day after a loss, according to a report by PromoGuy, we’ve cost employers a whole lot of money over the last few years.
Losses Add Up: $402 Million in Wasted Work Time
The report found that we waste an average of 2.2 work hours the day after our team loses, which comes out to about $402 million in lost productivity statewide. So, maybe it’s time to become less emotionally invested in an outcome we have no control over. Our employers will thank us.
