A bizarre situation unfolded in between a doubleheader featuring the Toronto Blue Jays and Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday at Camden Yards.

After the Orioles won Game 1 16-4 in the afternoon, they traded relief pitcher Seranthony Domínguez to the Blue Jays.

This led to Domínguez needing just to make a short walk to switch clubhouses and join his new team ahead of Game 2.

“The big news of the day between games, the Blue Jays acquiring Seranthony Domínguez from the Orioles, which meant all he had to do was walk down the tunnel in the service level from the first-base clubhouse to the third-base clubhouse,” Blue Jays play-by-play announcer Dan Shulman explained on the Sportsnet broadcast.

“Here’s the funny part, looking down to the Orioles,” Shulman continued as the Sportsnet broadcast showed Domínguez in the bullpen for Game 2. “I mean, those guys were his teammates two hours ago! This is strange!”

The MASN broadcast also got a laugh out of Domínguez walking by his suddenly-former Baltimore teammates to join the Toronto bullpen.

“This was in between innings,” Orioles play-by-play announcer Kevin Brown said. “Seranthony walking out, enjoying the view in blue, and then getting razzed by his former teammates. Keegan Akin’s holding up three fingers, going, ‘What are you doing here in the third?’”

Not only did Domínguez join the Blue Jays in the middle of a doubleheader, but he even pitched in Game 2 for Toronto and struck out two Orioles batters as part of a scoreless inning.

“Look at the action on that splitter,” Shulman commented after Domínguez’s second strikeout.

As Domínguez headed out to the mound from the bullpen ahead of the appearance, Shulman said, “He makes his way in to face the guys who he called teammates until about five o’clock here locally, and he comes in, in a big spot.”

That’s an incredibly convenient and unusual addition to the team for the Blue Jays.

However, the Orioles won 3-2 in Game 2 and came away with a doubleheader sweep. Domínguez figures to still play a key role for a Toronto team that’s tied for the best record in the American League at 63-46.
