The Seattle Mariners, Chicago Cubs, Detroit Tigers and Philadelphia Phillies are considered the top contenders to land former Cincinnati Reds third baseman Eugenio Suarez ahead of the MLB trade deadline, according to a report from MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand.
USA TODAY’S Bob Nightengale reported July 24 that the Mariners and New York Yankees were the most aggressive in pursuing Suarez.

Suarez hit 189 home runs over seven seasons with the Reds from 2015 to 2021. He homered twice in three games against the Reds at Great American Ball Park in June.

In April, Suarez became the 19th player in MLB history to hit four home runs in one game, in an 8-7 loss in 10 innings to the Atlanta Braves. His fourth homer in that game came against Braves relief pitcher Raisel Iglesias, Suarez’s Reds teammate from 2015 to 2020.
