Burton baseball standout Ryder Biggs added one more honor to his sophomore season collection on Tuesday: a place on the all-state team.
Biggs earned second-team accolades on the Class 2A Blue Bell/Texas Sportswriters Association all-state team at third base.
He impressed at the plate throughout the season, hitting for a .452 average with 38 RBI, 12 doubles and two home runs. Biggs led the Panthers to the Class 2A Division II state semifinals during the postseason with a .366 average, three doubles, two triples and 10 RBI.
Biggs earned 19 multi-hit games this past spring, including a 3-hit effort against Overton in Game 1 of the state semifinals. While a 3-for-4 effort with two RBI was not enough to lead Burton to a win, he followed it with a 2-for-3 performance with three runs scored in Game 2 to power a 6-0 win.
His two multi-hit games in the state semifinals made up two of his five multi-hit games in the postseason.
While Biggs earned his all-state honor as a position player, he also played an integral role as Burton’s third pitcher. He tossed a complete game in Game 3 of the regional semifinals against Flatonia, needing just 78 pitches to pitch seven innings in a 7-2 win. Biggs also pitched Game 3 of the state semifinals, earning four strikeouts in six innings despite taking the loss.
Biggs is one of four sophomores on the Class 2A all-state second team and one of six sophomores throughout the classification’s first, second and third teams.
He adds all-state recognition to a season filled with accolades. Biggs earned a first-team all-district selection and a second-team All-Brazos Valley selection from The Bryan-College Station Eagle. He also earned a place on the Class 2A Division II UIL state all-tournament team, which was selected by the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association for his state semifinal performance.
