The Seattle Mariners will host the Texas Rangers for a pivotal four-game divisional series with playoff implications starting today, July 31.
Today’s game is one of only three being played on MLB trade deadline day. The Mariners (57-52) are hoping their recent acquisitions, sluggers Josh Naylor and third baseman Eugenio Suarez, will give them the firepower they need to hold off the Rangers (57-52) for a playoff berth. Both teams are essentially tied for the last American League Wild Card spot.

Is Eugenio Suarez playing today?
Suarez is expected to join the Mariners for their game against the Rangers today, July 31, according to Daniel Kramer, Mariners reporter for MLB.com.
The Mariners’ trade for Suarez was made official this morning, Kramer reported. The Mariners sent first baseman Tyler Locklear, right-handed pitcher Hunter Cranton, and right-handed pitcher Juan Burgos to the Arizona Diamondbacks for the All-Star third baseman.
“We’re thrilled to bring Geno back to Seattle,” Mariners president of baseball operations Jerry Dipoto said in a statement, according to Kramer. “He’s the type of person, player, and energizer to push us to the level we want to reach.”
