Day three of the 2025 Wyoming Legion Baseball AA State Tournament saw Sheridan claim a spot in the state championship game on Friday, two teams were eliminated, and one suffered its first loss. Only four teams remain, as the tournament enters day four on Thursday. Sheridan beat the Cheyenne Sixers in the winner’s bracket semifinal on Wednesday night after Gillette knocked out the Cheyenne Hawks, and Casper took care of Laramie.

Sheridan got a big pitching performance from Griffen Switzenberg and a timely hit by Blaine Phillips in a 4-2 victory over the Cheyenne Sixers on Wednesday night at Powers Field. Switzenberg allowed two runs on five hits in a complete game victory. He struck out five and walked one on 90 pitches. His effort kept the Cheyenne offense from getting on track. After trailing 1-0, the Troopers scored two runs in the third inning. Tanner Hamrick had an RBI single, and Phillips an RBI double for a 2-1 lead. The Sixers tied it in the bottom of the frame on an RBI groundout by Nolan Horton. In the fifth inning, after two singles and a walk, Phillips lined a base hit into left field that drove in two runs for a 4-2 lead. Switzenberg gave up one hit the rest of the way, and a strikeout ended the game.

Two Elimination Games Also Took Place

In the first game on Wednesday, the Gillette Riders survived in nine innings with a 6-5 victory over the Cheyenne Hawks. Both teams scored four runs in the third inning and added another run in the seventh. With two outs and the bases loaded, Ethan Hecker hit a game-winning, walk-off, RBI single to center field for the win. That eliminated the Hawks.

The second game saw the Casper Oilers stay alive with an 8-3 victory over the Laramie Rangers. Casper scored in each of the first four innings and built an 8-0 lead. Jack Nicholls had three doubles, two RBIs, and three runs scored for Casper. Laramie scored once in the fifth and added two more in the seventh, but the rally fell short. The Rangers were eliminated. Five of Casper’s eight hits were doubles, and they scored four runs with two outs in the fourth inning to break it open.

The day four schedule has Gillette against the Cheyenne Sixers at 3:30 p.m. in an elimination game, followed by Sheridan versus Casper at 6:30 p.m.
