The Los Angeles Dodgers have traded James Outman to the Minnesota Twins in exchange for relief pitcher Brock Stewart.

Outman burst onto the MLB scene with six hits in four games during the 2022 season, and continued his production in 2023 with a .248 batting average and an OPS+ of 114, 14 percent higher than league average.
LA gets a feared reliever to add to a bullpen in need, but Outman has been in the Dodgers’ system since 2018. The former seventh-round pick has come so far in a Dodgers uniform and will certainly be missed by fans.

Sorry to see James Outman go, but he wasn’t going to be in LA’s plans long term…hopefully Stewart will be good help in the bullpen… https://t.co/HGpwboAaNU

JAMES OUTMAN NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
— danielle ??? (@curecosmos) July 31, 2025
Outman played 22 games at the MLB level this season, but never found his footing. He batted .103 in 39 at-bats.
In Triple-A he was a different player, posting a .970 OPS in 70 games. https://t.co/3psZEIqzPd

I hope James Outman gets to play everyday in Minnesota. Good player, just needs a longer leash to figure things out at highest level

So many fun catches, so many good moments and a selfless mentality at all times.
James Outman had an incredible rookie season for the Dodgers and he was nothing but a professional as he bounced back and forth from the minors.
Go be great in Minnesota!pic.twitter.com/iiSQ9BNztq

James Outman has the potential to be really good for the Twins.
With that being said, the Dodgers didn’t have room for him in MLB and sent him to Minnesota for a great high-leverage, right-handed reliever with multiple years of team control in Brock Stewart.
What a move for LA. pic.twitter.com/4bs5C9JaGD

James Outman provides good speed and defense. He was really solid for the Dodgers in 2023 (.790 OPS, 3rd in rookie of the year voting), but mostly a big-league reserve since then (.514 OPS).
Took a possible tying homer from Carlos Correa away recently.
