It wouldn’t be baseball’s trade deadline without a bit of drama.
The Texas Rangers — contrary to a report — have not traded right fielder Adolis García to the New York Mets, two people with direct knowledge of the club’s thinking told The Dallas Morning News Thursday afternoon.
García, 32, has slashed .227/.273 /.394 with 15 home runs with the Rangers this season. He is in the second year of a two-year, $14 million contract that the Rangers signed him to prior to last season. The Rangers, who entered Thursday tied with the Seattle Mariners for second place in the American League West, are expected to pursue bullpen held before the 5 p.m. CT deadline.
The Mets have been one of baseball’s most active team this deadline and have already traded for St. Louis Cardinals closer Ryan Helsley, San Francisco Giants reliever Tyler Rogers and Baltimore Orioles outfielder Cedric Mullins.
