The Los Angeles Dodgers are trading right-handed pitcher Dustin May to the Boston Red Sox, per ESPN’s Jeff Passan.

In return, the Dodgers are acquiring outfielder prospect James Tibbs III, a former first-round pick by the San Francisco Giants who was sent to the Red Sox in the blockbuster Rafael Devers trade.

Wow. The Dodgers got OF James Tibbs — Boston’s No. 5 prospect and the ex-Giants first-round pick acquired in the Rafael Devers trade — for Dustin May.

That is an impressive return for May, on an expiring contract.

A really smart move from the Dodgers to close out the deadline.

May, 27, is on an expiring contract and wasn’t going to be a part of the Dodgers rotation moving forward. The Dodgers were going to move him to the bullpen, but instead netted a recent first-round pick for him in a savvy addition before the deadline.
