NY Mets: David Wright addresses the meaning of having his No. 5 retired
Before David Wright had his No. 5 retired by the Mets, he spoke to the media about the significance of the event and his 15 years with the team.
History will be made on Saturday night in The Volunteer State.
Major League Baseball’s single-game attendance — which has stood since 1954 with 84,587 fans — will be shattered this weekend when the Atlanta Braves (45-62, fourth in NL East) and Cincinnati Reds (57-52, third in NL Central) head to the racetrack for the 2025 MLB Speedway Classic at Bristol Motor Speedway.
More than 85,000 tickets have already been sold at the historic racing track, which will be the first ever MLB game held at a NASCAR track and the only time in history an American League or National League game will be played in the state of Tennessee.
The one-of-a-kind game will be the series finale between the Braves and Reds, with Cincinnati being the designated home team as the first two games will take place at Great American Ball Park on Thursday and Friday.
Barring a miraculous run over the final two months, the Braves are on pace to miss the playoffs for the first time in eight years, when they finished 72-90 in 2017. Injuries to numerous starting pitchers and position players have played a pivotal role in Atlanta’s disappointing season as well as the status of Ronald Acuna Jr. — the 2023 NL MVP and one of baseball’s biggest stars — who was recently was placed on the IL with right Achilles tightness, missing this contest and could be sidelined for the next 2-3 weeks.
It’s the opposite scenario for the Reds, who are three games out of the third and final Wild Card spot in the National League, aiming to qualify for the postseason for the first time since 2020, when they finished with a 31-29 record in the 60-game COVID-19 shortened season.
With the highly anticipated game less than 48 hours away, here’s everything you need to know on how to watch, stream and more on the 2025 MLB Speedway Classic between the Braves and Reds.

Braves’ ace Spencer Strider will start for the organization in the must-see event. It’s been an up-and-down campaign for the former All-Star in his first full season back from Tommy John surgery that held him to only two starts last season. A previous 20-game winner in 2023, Strider has a decent ERA but with the Braves struggling due to injuries and underperformance in 2025, he hasn’t been able to pick as nearly as many wins as he did two years ago.
For the Reds will be Chase Burns. The right-hander who was born in Naples, Italy, is the top prospect in Cincinnati’s system and has been in the big leagues for the past month. In six starts, the 22-year-old flamethrower has notched eight or more strikeouts on four occasions and has recorded 10 strikeouts in each of his last three starts, but is still seeking his first victory in MLB.
