The Texas Rangers announced a bevy of roster moves Friday to open up roster space for their new trade deadline additions.
With relief pitchers Phil Maton and Danny Coulombe joining the staff, Texas optioned left-hander Jacob Latz and right-hander Kumar Rocker to Triple-A Round Rock.
Latz had been pitching mostly in a long relief role for the Rangers and making the occasional spot start. He has been effective in that role with a 3.23 ERA across 55.2 innings of work.

Rocker’s season has been more up-and-down. The former first-rounder has shown flashes, but mostly struggled to the tune of a 5.74 ERA in 64.1 innings. He also spent some time on the IL with a right shoulder impingement.
Maton (2.35 ERA) and Coulombe (1.16 ERA) are now likely to slot in at the back of the Ranger bullpen. They join a unit that ranks second in relief pitcher ERA in the American League.
