Charlotte Knights 4, Rochester Red Wings 3 (Statcast box)
The rain delay stifled the Knights (50-55) in the early going against the Red Wings (41-62). Charlotte was scoreless until the sixth, having only knocked off four hits and a walk until Bryan Ramos put the Knights on the board with a two-run bomb to center.
By then, though, the Knights were already behind, as Jesse Scholtens surrendered a two-run homer during his five innings pitched. Yoendrys Gómez added to the deficit with an earned run of his own, but his seven strikeouts through four innings outweighed his mistake.
Another stroke of luck graced the Knights when Dominic Fletcher went to bat in eighth to tie the contest with a sacrifice fly. Later, he won the game with a four-pitch walk, in a very fortunate turn of events.
On another positive note, Curtis Mead did well in his debut with the White Sox organization. He went 1-for-2 and drew three walks. Maybe there’s hope for him after all!

Birmingham Barons 6, Rocket City Trash Pandas 0
The Barons (60-40) kickstarted an undefeated August with its third shutout win of the series against the Trash Pandas (35-64). Birmingham’s pitching staff was nothing less than superb, issuing three hits, a walk, and seven strikeouts. Connor McCullough, who was activated off the 60-day IL days ago, allowed the only hit and collected four strikeouts through four frames. Jake Palisch, who held a 2.08 ERA and limited opponents to seven runs over five games, appeared for a brilliant, one-hit outing after McCullough, giving the Barons plenty of runway.
Bham’s offense was on a roll. Braden Montgomery and Ryan Galanie each pounded home runs, and everyone’s favorite minor league left fielder Rikuu Nishida was stellar: 3-for-3 with two runs and two walks. Although the Barons recorded twice as many hits as runs, they kept pressure on the Trash Pandas the entire game.

Winston-Salem Dash vs Greenville Drive
Postponed due to wet grounds; makeup scheduled for August 2 as a doubleheader.
Kannapolis Cannon Ballers 6, Delmarva Shorebirds 5 (7 innings)
The Cannon Ballers (47-53) narrowly escaped with a win against the Shorebirds (38-61).
Kanny wasted no time to get on the board after a two-hour rain delay, with George Wolkow’s extra-base hit driving in the a run in the first inning. Although Kaleb Sophy allowed the Shorebirds to tie the game at one apiece in the next inning, he finished his outing without giving up another run. Meanwhile, the Ballers provided ample run support. Fueled by Adrian Gil’s two-run RBI single, the Ballers gained a 6-1 advantage after the lineup put up a five-spot in the third inning.
Despite Jake Peppers’ pickoff error and run allowed that helped Delmarva cut the lead to one, Kanny maintained an iron grip over their lead to finish the night with a win.
