The Los Angeles Dodgers have earned a reputation for making blockbuster deals at the trade deadline.

In the past they’ve acquired names like Manny Machado, Yu Darvish, Max Scherzer and Trea Turner at the deadline.

Last season, they acquired shortstop Tommy Edman and reliever Michael Kopech in a three-team trade deal — two players who played a key role in the team’s 2024 World Series run. The Dodgers also landed starter Jack Flaherty from the Detroit Tigers.

But this season, Los Angeles did not make any major additions to their roster, despite being linked to several big names ahead of the deadline.

The Dodgers received a few pitchers, an outfielder, a catcher and outfield prospects. They traded starting pitcher Dustin May, outfielder James Outman and catcher Hunter Fedducia, as well as prospects.

Dodgers general manager Brandon Gomes explained that the organization was already content with their current roster. Therefore, Los Angeles did not feel the need to make any big moves.

“Obviously there was a lot of action today throughout the game, and a lot of teams improved,” Gomes said Thursday. “But we feel really good about this group. Coming into the year, we felt like this was as talented of a roster as we’ve ever had. We’re in a position where we’re in first place, and I don’t even think we’ve played our best baseball yet.

“So as we continue to get some of our starters back, and then adding these pieces, and our guys just kind of playing up to their potential, we feel like it’s still a really, really strong team, and we don’t feel any differently about our aspirations than we did at the beginning of the year.”

Los Angeles has gotten back starting pitchers Tyler Glasnow and Blake Snell, while two-way player Shohei Ohtani is back on the mound. Additionally, third baseman Max Muncy is set to return from the IL this weekend or early next week.

Gomes emphasized that playing well in October is most important, and the organization believes this team has the ability to win another World Series.

“As we saw last year, what’s most important is to peak at the right time and hit our stride in that second half and be strong going into October,” Gomes said. “So the belief in this group, and what we can accomplish, is really strong. We feel great about what we can do.”
