Padres minor league affiliates went 4-2 on Saturday.
Here is our daily recap of games played.
El Paso Chihuahuas (Won 5-2 vs Round Rock) (57-49 on the season)
Nate Mondou – 1-for-4, Three-Run Home Run

Luis Campusano – 2-for-2, Two-RBI Double, Two Walks
Miguel Cienfuegos – 3 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K (49 pitches – 33 strikes)
El Paso rode a pair of big extra-base hits and strong pitching to a stress-free 5-2 win. Luis Campusano reached base in all four of his plate appearances, hitting two doubles and driving in two runs. Nate Mondou had one hit, but his lone hit was a three-run homer off Express starter Cory Abbott. Yonathan Perlaza scored two runs in the game, and Ripken Reyes reached base twice in the game on a double and a walk.
Miguel Cienfuegos started for the Chihuahuas, tossing three innings of scoreless baseball. The left-hander struck out three batters in his outing, scattering three base hits and stranding a runner at third base in the second. Fellow southpaw Omar Cruz tossed 2.2 innings in long relief, allowing two runs on four hits. Cruz also struck out three batters, getting plenty of chases on his fastball. His changeup also generated whiffs on 66.7% of swings against. Alek Jacob tossed two scoreless innings, and Sean Reynolds closed out the win with a scoreless ninth, earning his second save of the season.
San Antonio Missions (Won 4-2 vs Frisco) (53-48 on the season)
Marcos Castanon – 3-for-4, Two Home Runs, Four RBI
Eric Yost – 6.1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 5 K (84 pitches – 53 strikes)
Garrett Hawkins – 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K (27 pitches – 20 strikes)
New faces on the Missions’ pitching staff made quite a first impression in their win. Eric Yost made his first start at the Double-A level and did not skip a beat. Yost fired off 6.1 innings, not allowing a run when he was on the mound. His slider, sweeper, and four-seamer looked as crisp as they did in Fort Wayne, and he racked up five punchouts against the RoughRiders. Yost was pulled with a runner on and one out in the seventh, and while Ryan Och got into some trouble (allowing two runs to score), he used a clutch double play to end the jam. Garrett Hawkins and his 34-inning scoreless streak made their first appearance at Double-A, allowing three base hits. Despite this, Hawkins worked around the base traffic and punched out three in two scoreless innings, extending his scoreless streak to 36 consecutive innings.

Marcos Castanon feasted at the plate, launching two home runs and driving in four runs on the day. Castanon has enjoyed hitting against the RoughRiders this series, as he is 7-for-20 with five RBI. The two homers were also Castanon’s first since July 2nd. Wyatt Hoffman had two hits, including a double, in four at-bats. Devin Ortiz, Romeo Sanabria, and Francisco Acuna each went 1-for-4 in the game, with both Sanabria and Acuna scoring a run.
Marcos had not one but two homers in tonight’s matchup, making him tonight’s @FrostBank Player of the Game! ?

Fort Wayne TinCaps (Lost 18-3 vs Great Lakes) (48-52 on the season)
Zach Evans – 2-for-4, Two Singles, Three RBI
Braedon Karpathios – 3-for-4, Three Singles, Run Scored
Will Varmette – 3.2 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 3 BB, 5 K (77 pitches – 40 strikes)
Fort Wayne’s pitching staff was rocked in their Saturday game, tagged for a season-high 18 runs. Will Varmette moved into the TinCaps’ rotation with the promotions of Miguel Mendez and Eric Yost, and made his first start since June 22. Varmette pitched better than the final line indicated, allowing four runs on five hits in 3.2 innings. The right-hander struck out five batters, walking three. The first inning was a challenge, as he labored through six batters faced on 29 pitches. A throwing error by Lamar King Jr scored a run, as did a double play grounder. A two-out, two-run single chased Varmette from the game in the fourth. Josh Mallitz allowed three runs in 1.1 innings of relief, striking out two. Harry Gustin, fresh off the injured list, struck out the side in the sixth but left two runners on in the seventh that would come in to score. Bodi Rascon and Ruben Galindo were battered for four earned runs over a combined 2.1 innings of work, and for the second time in the series, Fort Wayne turned to a position player in the ninth. Kaden Hollow tossed 0.1 innings, allowing two hits and getting the final out on a pop-up.
The lineup was led by some of the TinCaps’ new faces. Infielder and friend of EVT Zach Evans made his presence known as a sparkplug in the lineup, driving in all three TinCaps runs. Evans, who led the Lake Elsinore Storm in hits and RBI, finished 2-for-4 with two singles and three RBI. Ryan Jackson had one base hit in the game, scoring one run. Braedon Karpathios had three hits of his own, scoring a run. Lamar King Jr did not have a hit in the game, but managed a successful stolen base. King Jr has been one of the sneakiest baserunners in the Padres’ system, as he has gone 19-for-22 in the stolen base department as a catcher. Kasen Wells was hitless as the leadoff batter in his TinCaps debut, and 2025 19th rounder Jonathan Vastine was also hitless in his professional debut; the former Vanderbilt Commodore skipped Single-A entirely, and looks to be a fixture in the TinCaps lineup down the stretch.
Lake Elsinore Storm (Lost 14-7 vs Inland Empire) (47-54 on the season)
Alex McCoy – 2-for-3, Home Run, Two Runs Scored
Kerrington Cross – 3-for-4, Three Singles, RBI
Bryan Balzer – 2 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 1 BB, 0 K (49 pitches – 25 strikes)
Right-hander Bryan Balzer struggled to get his usual swing-and-miss against the 66ers, as they jumped on him for four runs in two innings of work. Balzer walked one and struck out none, as the 66ers simply turned on pitches mislocated down the middle. Kannon Kemp came on in relief, but could not stop the 66ers’ offense, struggling to get ahead of opposing batters. Kemp was ultimately tagged with seven earned runs in two-plus innings, with three of those coming after Kemp was relieved. Yovannki Pascual allowed three runs while recording one out; four walks from the hard-throwing left-hander did not do him any favors. Adam Conrad tossed two scoreless innings, striking out three batters.
The Storm’s lineup was unable to get going until the late innings, scoring twice in the first seven frames. Kerrington Cross drove in the first run for Lake Elsinore on a third-inning single. Cross struck for his first three professional hits in this game. Alex McCoy had two hits in the game, including a solo homer in the fourth inning, his third of the season. Yoiber Ocopio made his Single-A debut, finishing 2-for-5 with a two-run double in the eighth inning. Kavares Tears had an RBI double in the ninth, and Kale Fountain hit a sac fly one batter later to score Cross. Yendry Rojas had a base hit to score the seventh run of the game for the Storm, but it was an insurmountable deficit as the 14-7 final would stand.
DSL Padres Gold (Won 7-0 vs DSL Orioles Black) (28-15 on the season)
Moises Valdez – 2-for-3, Three-RBI Double
Eduarlin Tejeda – 1-for-4, Triple, Two RBI
Jeronimo Palmeros – 5 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K
Jeronimo Palmeros pitched a season-high five innings, not allowing a run. Palmeros allowed five hits and struck out four batters, getting five of 15 outs on the ground ball. Guillermo Romero and Jeferson Villabona each tossed a scoreless frame to cap off the shutout. Moises Valdez had two hits out of the leadoff spot, driving in three runs. Eduarlin Tejeda drove in two runs on a triple and a groundout. Seven different Padres scored one run in the game, and Dayquer Alfonzo was the lone other Padre with an RBI, driving in a run when he was plunked in the first.
DSL Padres Brown (Won 2-1 vs DSL LAD Mega) (18-25 on the season)
Abraham Bastidas – 2-for-3, Two Singles
Tom Guerrero – 1-for-2, Double, Walk
Josias Figuereo – 4 IP, 5 H, 1 R (0 ER), 2 BB, 3 K
A pair of Dodger miscues allowed the Padres Gold to steal a 2-1 win at home. Clay Winklaar scored the team’s first run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the first inning. The LAD Mega would tie the game on a base hit off Josias Figuereo in the third inning, but the tie game wouldn’t last beyond the fourth. With Angel Mejia at the plate, a balk from Joseph Thon scored Jose Bericoto. Padres Brown starter Josias Figuereo threw four innings of one-run ball, striking out three. Albert Perez threw two scoreless innings, and Jeuris Guzman struck out two to earn the save.
