The St. Joseph baseball team has clinched the first league championship for the program in recent memory.
The Knights won 6-0 at Cabrillo Thursday to lock up the Mountain League title. St. Joseph moved to 20-5, 12-1. The Conquistadores slipped to 10-10, 4-9.
St. Joseph’s Mason Majewski pitched a complete game and yielded just one hit, a Thomas Kiesling single.
The Knights racked up seven doubles in their 10-hit attack, and Ashton Bluem had two. Bluem had two hits and two RBIs.
St. Joseph will finish its regular season with a home-and-home series against cross-street rival Righetti next week. The teams will play each other at Righetti Tuesday and at Righetti Thursday. Both games are slated for a 4:30 p.m. start.
At press time Friday, Righetti could do no worse than a three-way tie for second place. All six Mountain League teams have qualified for the CIF Central Section playoffs.  Â
Boys volleyball
PV completes unbeaten league season
The Panthers put the wrap on an unbeaten Ocean League campaign by winning 3-1 at Mission Prep Thursday night. Set scores were 25-21, 22-25, 25-16, 25-22.
Pioneer Valley finished the regular season 20-16, 8-0. The Royals finished 4-25, 3-5.
Sehidd Uribe racked up 15 kills and five blocks for the Panthers. Santiago Quezada had a team high 16 kills, and Anthony Lahr had 12. Pioneer Valley libero Yahir Lopez made 21 digs, and Panthers setter Daniel Aguilera finished with 48 assists.
Pioneer Valley will await its first-round CIF Central Section playoffs assignment. The playoffs will start next Tuesday.
Righetti 3, Morro Bay 2
The Warriors (16-14, 6-2) took the Sunset League championship by winning their regular season finale at Morro Bay Thursday night. Set scores were 25-19, 28-26, 25-27, 21-25, 16-14.

San Luis Obispo 2, Pioneer Valley 1
An RBI apiece for Keegan Toole and Tyler Blaney amounted to just enough for the Tigers to get past the Panthers at Pioneer Valley Thursday and clinch a tie for the Sunset League championship.

San Luis Obispo (12-11, 7-5) has finished its league campaign. The rest of the league teams all have a chance for a share of the league title. All five Sunset League teams have qualified for the CIF Central Section playoffs.
At press time Friday, Templeton (15-11, 5-5), Atascadero (12-12, 5-5), Paso Robles (11-11, 4-5) and Pioneer Valley (9-12, 4-5) were bunched behind San Luis Obispo in the league standings.
Pioneer Valley will finish its regular season with a home-and-home series against Templeton next Tuesday and Thursday then a game at Paso Robles May 12. Templeton and Pioneer Valley will play each other at Pioneer Valley Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. then at Templeton Thursday at the same time.
Paso Robles will host Atascadero next Tuesday then play at Atascadero Thursday before hosting Pioneer Valley. All of those games are slated for 4:30 p.m. starts.
Nipomo 9, Santa Ynez 1
Ethan Silveira and Aden Willis both had two hits and two RBIs, and the Titans beat the Pirates at Santa Ynez in an Ocean League game Thursday.
Nipomo starter Aiden Mendoza and reliever Griffin Groshart combined on a three-hitter. Mendoza held the Pirates hitless in his 2.1 innings pitched.
David Aquistapace drove in the Santa Ynez run. The Titans (9-12, 6-4) will host Righetti in a non-league game Saturday at 10 a.m. The Pirates (9-19, 4-6) will play Orcutt Academy in a league game at Morrison Field in Orcutt Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
Softball
Orcutt Academy 5, Atascadero 2
The Greyhounds out-hit the Spartans 10-4, but Orcutt Academy won this Sunset League game at Atascadero. The Spartans were error free. The Greyhounds made four errors.
Orcutt Academy (10-9-1, 5-4) is in the thick of the Sunset League race, behind Templeton (7-3 Sunset League at press time Friday) and Pioneer Valley (6-3 Sunset League at press time).
Pioneer Valley will host Orcutt Academy next Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
Nipomo 1, Morro Bay 0 (forfeit)
The Titans garnered an Ocean League forfeit win over the Pirates. Nipomo coach Robert Oliver said that Morro Bay did not want to play Nipomo as a varsity team, so the teams played an exhibition-type game at Nipomo Thursday, with Nipomo playing none of its regular starters.
Nipomo (11-7, 9-0) is the defending CIF Central Section Division 6 champion. The Titans lead the Ocean League. San Luis Obispo (12-9-1, 8-2) is in second place.
The Titans will clinch a tie for the league title if they win at Santa Ynez Tuesday. Start time is slated for 3:30 p.m. Â
