Red Sox top prospect Roman Anthony remained the top prospect in baseball in today’s updated rankings. Anthony leads Triple-A in many underlying stats, and it’s only a matter of time before he breaks into the major league roster.

In the wake of the Rafael Devers-first base scandal, many have wondered how the Red Sox will deal with the season-ending injury to Triston Casas.

At the same time, Anthony and Marcelo Mayer, the No. 8 prospect in baseball are knocking on the door, and the Red Sox will frustrate fans the longer they wait to call up one or both of their young players.

One possibility that could allow Anthony to get some reps early is a change to Jarren Duran’s role.

Duran hasn’t had the same stellar stats as he did in 2024, with a below-average .687 OPS and just two home runs in 41 games.

With Anthony knocking on the door and the AL East ripe for the taking, would the Red Sox ever consider benching Duran and giving Anthony major league reps in his place?

It sounds outlandish, but Anthony’s .899 OPS and .302 batting average would give the kind of offensive production in the middle of the lineup that the Sox envisioned from Casas.

In the meanwhile, conversations could possibly be had to put Duran at first base, as his size and glove could project well there.

There is a growing need for Boston to make some changes to not only find a fit at first base, as Nick Sogard isn’t a long-term option, and also give Anthony and Mayer some playing time.
