Brewers alumni home run derby is a hit

The Milwaukee Brewers held an alumni home run derby as part of their 25th anniversary celebration of American Family Field on July 25, 2025.

The Brewers defeated the Braves, 3-1, on Monday night thanks to strong pitching from Quinn Priester and a three-run home run by Isaac Collins.Priester went seven innings, giving up just one run on two hits while tying a franchise record with his 10th win in his last 12 appearances.Collins, recently named NL rookie of the month, hit his seventh home run of the season in the fourth inning to provide all the offense Milwaukee would need.

ATLANTA – The Milwaukee Brewers remain undefeated on their current road trip, thanks in large part to the efforts of two of their most unsung heroes to this point in the season.

Quinn Priester was once again terrific with a seven-inning start and Isaac Collins provided all the offense his team would need with one swing of the bat, as his three-run home run in the fourth was the difference in a 3-1 victory over the Atlanta Braves at Truist Park on Monday night, Aug. 4.

Priester allowed a homer to Jurickson Profar on his first offering of the game only to tighten up from there, scattering just one more hit and two walks with four strikeouts over his 90-pitch outing.

The effort extended the right-hander’s winning streak to 10 games over his last 12 appearances (nine starts), tying Chris Bosio and Cal Eldred (both in 1992) for the longest such run in franchise history.

Milwaukee is a season-best 24 games over .500 at 68-44 while improving to 10-1 in its last 11 road games, including five straight victories.

Quinn Priester has been a ground-ball machine

Following the leadoff homer allowed to Profar, Priester allowed one hit the rest of the way – a bloop two-out double to Nacho Alvarez Jr. in the second inning.

Then, starting with a fielder’s choice off the bat of Sean Murphy to end the third, Priester (11-2) registered 10 of his final 12 outs via a ground ball including five straight and nine of 11 at one point.

It was another masterful outing by the 24-year-old, who went seven innings for the second time in three starrts.

Abner Uribe threw a scoreless eighth and Trevor Megill finished the game off with a 1-2-3 ninth for his 25th save.

Each team managed just three hits.

Right on cue for Isaac Collins

William Contreras was plunked in the ribs by Fedde, then Andrew Vaughn’s hustle down the first-base line paid dividends when the out call of Malachi Moore was overturned by a Pat Murphy challenge.

Two batters later, Collins – fresh off being named the National League’s rookie of the month – belted a three-run homer to right in a full count to give Milwaukee its first lead at 3-1.

It was the seventh round-tripper of the season for Collins.

Atlanta takes a quick lead

Brice Turang bunted for a leadoff single but after a Contreras flyout was erased on a double-play grounder off the bat of Vaughn.

Then, on Priester’s first pitch – a cutter right over the heart of the plate – Profar sent a homer out to right to give the Braves a 1-0 lead.

It was the first time Milwaukee trailed on the road trip since the first inning Aug. 1 in Washington.
