The Los Angeles Dodgers have claimed first baseman Luken Baker off waivers from the St. Louis Cardinals, per the team’s transaction log.

To make room on the 40-man roster, LA designated right-handed pitcher Jack Little for assignment.

Baker is hitting .235 with an OPS of .689 through 19 appearances with the Cardinals this season. The 28-year-old is hitting .196 across 62 Triple-A appearances with a .707 OPS.

Baker had a much stronger Triple-A showing last season with a .231/.345/.535 slash line and his .880 OPS. He added 32 home runs and 67 RBIs across 109 games in MiLB.

This move is likely to add more depth to the 40-man roster and have someone who is able to play first base in the event of a potential Freddie Freeman injury. Although Baker has just 73 career MLB games to his name, he hopes to be someone who can progress into earning some playing time in LA.

As for Little, he has just three big league innings under his belt, allowing two earned runs in the process. Across 42.2 innings of work in the minor leagues, Little has a 4.64 ERA. He has tossed 39 strikeouts and 19 walks across his 36 appearances.

Little showed tons of potential in 2024, tossing a 2.18 ERA during his 18 outings in Double-A and a 4.71 mark across 29 Triple-A appearances. His 4.60 and 3.64 strikeout-to-walk ratios in Double-A and Triple-A, respectively, dropped this season to just 2.05 in Triple-A.
