CINCINNATI (WXIX) – Cleveland Guardians pitcher Luis Ortiz is being investigated for gambling, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan.
The Guardians announced earlier Thursday they were informed by MLB that Ortiz was put “on leave per an agreement with the Players Association due to an ongoing league investigation.”
Passan said the investigation is connected with gambling activities.
Ortiz, a 26-year-old from the Dominican Republic, was the scheduled starter for Cleveland’s Thursday game against the Chicago Cubs.
During his 2025 season, Ortiz has a 4-9 record with a 4.36 ERA.
