BOSTON — As expected, Roman Anthony is not in the Red Sox lineup against the Royals on Tuesday.

Anthony was scratched with mid-back tightness right before Boston’s 8-5 win over Kansas City on Monday. Manager Alex Cora said yesterday that Anthony would be held out of the lineup Tuesday but could return as soon as Wednesday.

“He’s doing OK,” Cora said Tuesday. “If I wanted to, he could have started. But stay away from him one more day. If we use him later, we use him later. But hopefully we don’t. And he’ll start tomorrow.”

Kansas City and Boston will play at 7:10 p.m. here at Fenway Park. Righty Ryan Bergert (1-0, 2.78 ERA) will start for the Royals opposite Red Sox ace Garrett Crochet (12-4, 2.23 ERA).

Anthony isn’t the only key Red Sox outfielder not in the lineup. Ceddanne Rafaela also will start the game on the bench.

Cora confirmed that Rafaela is fine and it’s just a scheduled day off for him.

Masataka Yoshida is back in the lineup for the first time since Friday. He will play left field.

David Hamilton is at second base. Romy Gonzalez is at DH.

Crochet is pitching on nine days rest. He hasn’t pitched since Saturday, July 26 against the Dodgers at home. The Red Sox are mindful of his workload as he’s just 4 ⅔ innings shy of his career high. He’s tied for the MLB lead in innings (141 ⅓).
