And just like that, the two top seeds in the Cape Cod Baseball League playoffs are behind the eight ball after falling in Game 1.

Both the Orleans Firebirds and Bourne Braves, winners of the East and West Divisions, respectively, fell behind and stayed behind.

The Hyannis Harbor Hawks topped the Braves 3-1 on Tuesday at Doran Park.

Dalton Lachance (McLennan JC) drove in a pair of runs on his only hit of the game in the top of the fifth inning to pry open a scoreless deadlock, while Jayce Dobie (Nevada) went 3-for-4 with an insurance RBI in the top of the ninth inning.

Carson Jasa (Nebraska) threw 4 2/3 of scoreless and two-hit innings for the fourth-seeded Harbor Hawks. He walked just two and struck out five batters. Ryan Speshyock (Stanford) slammed the door to pick up the save after he struck out two in an inning of work.

The Braves were limited to just four hits and five walks in the loss.

In other Cape Cod Baseball League playoff action:

Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox 4, Orleans Firebirds 1

Jordan Crosland (Maryland) grounded into what would have appeared to be a routine force out, but a rare error by Elijah Ickes (Hawaii) allowed two runs to touch home plate and gave the Red Sox a 2-0 first inning lead.

The Red Sox added to their advantage on a second force out to Ickes an inning later, which made it 3-0, and that was more than enough.

Landon Hairston (Arizona State) broke up the shutout with a solo home run in the third inning before the Red Sox re-established their three-run lead on a fielder’s choice.

Brady Hamilton (Wichita State) pitched 5 1/3 one-run innings, where he gave up just four hits, including the home run, and three walks, while he struck out five batters. Tyler Pitzer (South Carolina) gave up just one hit in two innings to make the save.

The two teams combined for just 15 hits, left 19 runners on base and were 0-for-14 with runners in scoring position.

Jayce Tharnish (St. Bonaventure), Armando Briseno (Long Beach State) and Ryan Niedzwiedz (Southern Illinois-Edwardsville) all had two hits for the Red Sox. Tharnish recorded a RBI and scored a run.

Harwich Mariners 10, Brewster Whitecaps 2

Jake Koonin (Princeton) led the Mariners to a Game 1 victory after he racked up a trio of RBIs an scored twice on a 2-for-3 night, which included a solo home run in a five-run eighth inning.

Ryan Gerety (Northeastern) scored twice, while Patrick Fultz (Wright State) was 2-for-4 with a RBI and a run scored. Sam DeCarlo (Washington) had a two-RBI game and scored a run after going 1-for-4 at the plate.

The Mariners dinged the Whitecaps for 12 hits and were an efficient 6-for-13 with runners in scoring position. Nine different players recorded a hit.

Troy Dressler (Wake Forest) had a strong start on the mound for the Mariners, giving up just three hits and one run (earned) across five innings. He struck out six.

Scott Doran (Coastal Carolina) made the save after he pitched four innings in relief. He allowed just three hits, one run and two walks and collected two strike outs.

The Whitecaps trailed 5-0 when Adam Magpoc (Boston College) plated their first run in the fifth inning. They were held to just six hits and two walks.

Cotuit Kettleers 5, Wareham Gatemen 4 (10 inn.)

Luke Matthews (Kent State), who was 2-for-4 with a walk and two RBIs, drove in the winning run in the top of the 10th inning as the Kettleers topped the Gatemen in extra innings.

The Gatemen had a chance to win the game in the bottom of the 10th inning, but left the bases loaded after Hayden Yost (Florida) grounded out to end the threat. Nick Greaney (Florida State) preserved the win after he had walked two straight batters with two outs.

With one swing, Landon Beaver (Alabama-Birmingham) flipped the script and gave the Kettleers a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning as he drove in a pair of runs on a single.

Five pitchers, led by starter Max Haug (George Washington), held the Gatemen to just eight hits and five walks. No one pitched more than three innings.

The Gatemen nearly stormed back to steal the win after scoring two runs across the final four innings of play. Jake Kail (Columbia) drove in the tying run on his only hit of the game.

Chase Krewson (Central Florida) was the lone Gatemen with more than one hit as he finished 3-for-5 with a run scored.
