ATLANTA — After a rough outing against the Chicago Cubs last week, Freddy Peralta was back to his usual self Tuesday night as he and the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Atlanta Braves, 7-2.
Peralta allowed just 1 run on 4 hits, striking out 7 batters over 5 innings of work to secure the win. Braves starter Joey Wentz was credited with the loss.
The Brewers took control of the game in the third inning. Christian Yelich ran out an infield single to score the game’s first run and keep the bases loaded with 2 outs. A wild pitch moved everyone up 90 feet and scored Joey Ortiz, then Andrew Vaughn delivered a 2-RBI single to bring the score to 4-0.
The Crew ended the night with 8 hits, the same amount as the Braves, but what made the difference was their ability to deliver with runners in scoring position.
The Brewers went 5-for-11 as a team with runners in scoring position while the Braves went 1-for-10. Milwaukee left 5 runners stranded while the Braves left 14.
Tuesday’s win moved the Brewers’ record to 69-44. They could become the first team in baseball to reach 70 wins this season with a victory Wednesday over the Braves.
Wednesday’s game is slated to start at 6:15 p.m. CT. Jose Quintana will start for the Brewers while Spencer Strider gets the nod for Atlanta as they try to avoid a sweep.
