MIAMI – Prior to Sunday afternoon’s series finale at Loan Depot Park, the Yankees placed oft-injured reliever Jonathan Loaisiga on the injury list due to “right mid back tightness.”

That transaction also coincided with Luis Gil’s activation Sunday against the Marlins, who’ve won the first two games of this series – Friday’s wild, 13-12 comeback victory and Saturday’s 2-0 win, featuring Jazz Chisholm Jr.’s blunder on the bases.

It’ll be Gil’s first start of the year, having rehabbed since spring training from a lat strain.

“I’ve been waiting for a long, long time, from the moment I got hurt” to return to the rotation, said Gil, the 2024 AL Rookie of the Year.

Through an interpreter Gil said “it’s been a long process,” but feels ready to go following his latest minor league rehab start, when he reached 75 pitches.

Here is the Yankees’ lineup Sunday vs. Marlins right-hander Edward Cabrera (4-5 3.35 ERA):

And for Miami, which will have the roof closed for the afternoon contest.
