SUTTON – Pender took care of St. Paul in a big way for this time of year, with a 7-1 win over Post 119 in the semifinals of the Class C State American Legion Tournament at DLD Park and Mike Thompson Field on Tuesday.

Pender Post 55 took care of business from the start on its way to the decisive, six-run win.

Trevor Trimble went the distance on the mound, scattering three hits, allowing the one run , issuing just two walks and striking out six on his way to the complete game.

After St. Paul scored its lone run in the bottom of the first frame, Trimble and company got things going in the second.

Tyler Olson worked a walk with one out before Jake Schuster singled on a ground ball past third into left field.

Ross Tremayne walked after  Olson and Schuster moved up a base to load the bases.

Zander Welsh came to the plate after a strikeout and sent the ball back up the middle for a hit, scoring Olson and Schuster and Post 55 was on its way.

Braylon Wegner laced a single into left which scored Tremayne and the score was 3-1 in favor of Frontier Bank heading into the bottom of the second and Trimble and company had all of the runs needed.

Pender restarted the offense in the top of the fifth.

Welsh walked then was expired on a fielder’s choice, leaving Wegner at first base.

Trimble walked to leave runners first and third after Wegner went to third on an error by the St. Paul pitcher, then Owen Kneifl singled on a line drive back up the middle which scored Wegner.

Another walk, after a strikeout put Tyler Olson on then a single by Ross Tremayne past third base scored Tremayne to get to the final score in the fifth inning.

An error by Post 55 in the bottom of the fifth and one in the sixth didn’t derail Trimble as he went on to complete the game with just 91 pitches and post the six-run win.

Jake Schuster went 2-for-3 in the game, scored once and drove in a run, Zander Welsh was 2-for-2 and had a couple of RBI’s. Tyler Olson scored twice.

Pender will move on in the tournament to take on Malcolm in Wednesday’s final.

Malcolm drilled Tecumseh-Johnson 16-0 on Tuesday to remain unbeaten in the tournament.

Frontier Bank would have to beat Malcolm twice to claim the Class C title.
