Padres minor league affiliates resumed their seasons with a full slate, going 2-4 in games played.Â
The following is our daily recap of games played.
Â
El Paso Chihuahuas (Won 8-7 vs Oklahoma City) (59-49 on the season)
Will Wagner – 3-for-5, Triple, Two RBI

Cody Roberts – 2-for-3, Game-Winning Sac Fly
Matt Waldron – 1.2 IP, 5 H, 6 R, 2 BB, 1 K (52 pitches – 31 strikes)
Despite a short start from Matt Waldron, the Chihuahuas lineup showed they really have that dog in them, rallying to win 8-7. Waldron started but only lasted 1.2 innings, allowing six runs. Waldron got only four whiffs all game, with his fastball being barreled significantly. Jake Higginbotham tossed 2.2 innings of relief, keeping the game close and recording a strikeout. Harold Chirino worked around three hits to toss 1.2 scoreless innings, and Raul Brito clutched up with two scoreless of his own. Alek Jacob tossed a scoreless ninth, ultimately earning the win.Â
El Paso tied the game in the first after a base hit from Luis Campusano and a single from Mike Brosseau. Despite falling behind after two innings, El Paso clawed back in the fourth on a two-run triple by Will Wagner. Trenton Brooks, in his return to El Paso, tripled to drive in a run, and scored on a bases-loaded walk by Clay Dungan. Nate Mondou led off the ninth with a double, and Trenton Brooks walked to put two runners on. Mason McCoy bunted to move the runners but a throwing error from Kody Hoese scored the tying run. Two batters later, Cody Roberts hit a deep fly ball to score the winning run.Â

San Antonio Missions (Won 5-4 vs Springfield) (55-48 on the season)
Anthony Vilar – 2-for-4, Two-Run Double
Albert Fabian – 1-for-3, Go-Ahead RBI Double
Enmanuel Pinales – 5 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 2 BB, 4 K (87 pitches – 55 strikes)
San Antonio scored five unanswered runs in the seventh and eighth innings combined to snag a win from the visiting Cardinals. Enmanuel Pinales threw five innings for the Missions, striking out four batters. The right-hander was in control of his arsenal, limiting the walks to two. Cardinals batters were hitting the baseball fairly hard against the right-hander, as all five base hits he allowed went for extra bases. Pinales allowed a two-run homer in the second inning, and a double steal scored Springfield’s third run. An RBI double from Leonardo Bernal scored the fourth run against Pinales. Stephen Jones threw two innings of scoreless relief, striking out two. Fellow fireballer Andrew Moore walked one but tossed a scoreless eighth inning.Â
The seventh inning was when San Antonio put up their biggest number of the day. With one out, a walk to Marcos Castanon was followed by two wild pitches and a walk set up runners on the corners. Anthony Vilar doubled on a liner to left field to score two runs, cutting the deficit to two runs. Reliever Luis Gastelum came in and hit two batters, loading the bases. Wyatt Hoffman then hit a tailor-made double play ball, but a throwing error from second baseman Dakota Harris tied the game at four. Marcos Castanon drew a walk with two outs, and five pitches later, Albert Fabian doubled to deep center field, and Castanon came all the way around to score. With the Missions now leading 5-4, San Antonio turned to Garrett Hawkins for the ninth. Hawkins did what he has done all season long, as he retired three batters in the ninth for his second save with the Missions.Â

Fort Wayne TinCaps (Lost 6-5 vs South Bend) (49-53 on the season)
Rosman Verdugo – 3-for-3, Home Run
Lamar King Jr – 2-for-4, Single, Two RBI
Ian Koenig – 7 IP, 9 H, 6 H, 0 BB, 2 K (87 pitches – 61 strikes)
Fort Wayne chipped away at a 6-3 deficit in the late innings, but were unable to come up with the tying run. Ian Koenig started for the TinCaps, and pitched seven innings. However, Koenig was tagged for six runs on nine hits. He had a nearly even distribution of outs on balls in play (6 groundouts, 7 flyouts), only registering two strikeouts. Still, Koenig being able to pitch deep into the game bodes well for his progression. Nick Wissman was the only TinCaps reliever to throw in the game, tossing a scoreless eighth with one strikeout.
The TinCaps lineup had a productive day at the plate, even in the loss. Rosman Verdugo led the team with three hits, including his 12th home run of the season. Verdugo’s homer gave him the team lead, but it would be tied one batter later, as Braedon Karpathios launched a solo homer in the third as well. Karpathios finished the game with two hits and two RBI. Lamar King Jr broke out the lumber as well, finishing with two hits and two RBI in the game. Jonathan Vastine hit a single and scored a run in the game.Â
Â
Lake Elsinore Storm (Lost 6-1 vs Rancho Cucamonga) (47-56 on the season)
Kale Fountain – 2-for-4, Two Singles
Carlos Rodriguez – 1-for-4, Single, Run Scored
Humberto Cruz – 2.2 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 2 BB, 4 K (60 pitches – 33 strikes)
Humberto Cruz struck out four in his start against the Quakes, but was charged with five earned runs. Cruz allowed two homers in his start, walking two batters as well. It was not his best appearance, but he never let an inning spiral out of control. The Storm bullpen did not allow a hit the rest of the way, but Bernard Jose was charged with one run on three walks and a wild pitch. Vicarte Domingo racked up three strikeouts in two innings of relief.Â
The Storm lineup was only able to score once, mustering only four hits. Quakes pitching struck out 15 Storm batters, which severely hindered the team’s chances at winning. Kale Fountain had two singles in the game, and Carlos Rodriguez scored their only run. Dylan Grego drew a bases-loaded walk in the second inning to score a run, earning Grego his first career RBI.Â

DSL Padres Gold (Lost 5-1 vs DSL CLE Goryl) (29-16 on the season)
Eduarlin Tejeda – 2-for-4, Two Singles
Jhoan De La Cruz – 1-for-2, Double
Dalvi Nunez – 2.2 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 1 BB, 3 K
Dalvi Nunez allowed four runs in 2.2 innings, striking out three batters. Nunez pitched scoreless baseball for two innings before laboring in the third inning. A pair of run-scoring base hits spelled the end of his outing, and Jose Montijo entered. Montijo faced four batters, but plunked one and walked three, allowing two more runs to score. Miguel Alvarez, Jose Blanco, and Yoesmerli Beltre pitched scoreless baseball the rest of the way. Eduarlin Tejeda had two of the Padres Gold’s five hits, both being singles. Jhoan De La Cruz had a double in two at-bats, and pinch-runner Darian Castillo would come in to score later in the seventh inning on a bases-loaded walk drawn by Jhojan Downer. The Padres Gold were 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position, stranding six runners.Â
Â
DSL Padres Brown (Lost 17-1 vs DSL Reds) (18-27 on the season)
Abraham Bastidas – 1-for-2, RBI Double
Andres Garza – 1-for-1, Single, Two Walks
Marco Eluscat – 3.2 IP, 10 H, 8 R (7 ER), 0 BB, 10 K
Marco Eluscat put up a quizzical stat line in his start against the DSL Reds. Elucast allowed ten hits and seven earned runs to the Reds, but 10 of his 11 outs came via the strikeout. Padres Brown pitching struck out 15 batters, with five of six pitchers allowing at least one run. Abraham Bastidas drove in the Padres Brown’s lone run on an RBI double in the first inning. Andres Garza reached base all three times he came to the plate, drawing a pair of walks and hitting a single. Tom Guerrero, Cristian Benavides, and Frederick Saguita had the team’s only other base hits, and the team drew only two walks all game.
