The Los Angeles Dodgers emerged from the trade deadline with fewer moves than the baseball world predicted they would make, but they still made quality additions to the necessary areas of the roster.

After the smoke had cleared, catcher Hunter Feduccia, outfielder James Outman and right-hander Dustin May were no longer with the team. May, who had been in the Dodgers organization since he was drafted in 2016, was flipped to the Boston Red Sox for a pair of prospects.

The 27-year-old recently shed more light on what the process was leading up to the end of his Dodgers tenure, and how the wealth of talent in LA may have contributed to his landing in Boston.

“I was kind of pushed out,” May said. “We had quite a few guys there in that organization.

He added how excited he was to now be in Boston.

“I couldn’t be more excited. It’s thrill to be here and be a part of it,” May said.

“It was definitely a ride of emotions, up and down. Definitely sad leaving because I’ve been there for my whole career, but definitely very, very excited to be joining this organization and hope for a playoff push.”

Amid a 4.85 ERA season, May was trending towards a role out of the rotation and into the bullpen. With multiple pitchers set to return from the injured list over the next month, May was unlikely to earn a spot on the postseason roster, thus making him expendable as an expiring contract.

May spoke on what the communication was like between him and the Dodgers leading up to deadline day.

“Communication was great,” said May. “It was kind of just like, if things kind of fit perfect on both ends, then we can make it work. I don’t think they were trying to push anything, but it worked on both sides. So I’m excited to be here.”

May finishes the Dodgers chapter of his career with a 3.71 ERA. He played a key role in the 2020 World Series championship.
