Nebraska baseball added a new addition to the organization on Monday morning. Former All-American pitcher and longtime coach Kyle Nicholson is now a part of the Huskers.

Nicholson arrives at Nebraska following a successful run through multiple levels of baseball. In 2025, he served as the pitching coach at Mercyhurst, producing two pitchers that finished with an ERA below 3.00.

Prior to Mercyhurst, Nicholson coached at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP), turning the team into a D-II powerhouse between 2022 and 2024. In his final season with the Crimson Hawks, Nicholson led the team to a program-record 41-win season and a No. 4 national ranking.

Nicholson also coached on the high school level, serving as an assistant coach at Bethel Park High School and being a part of the team’s 2021 PIAA 5A state title.

Nicholson also made his mark in the college baseball world at Texas A&M. The College Station, Texas native, pitched for the Aggies from 2004 to 2007, appearing in 83 games and becoming a major part in head coach Rob Childress’s system. Childress is now Nebraska’s pitching coach, marking an exciting reunion for Nicholson.

In Nicholson’s final season with the Aggies, he finished 11-3 and a 2.25 ERA and finished as a finalist for National Pitcher of the Year.

He was then drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the seventh round of the 2007 MLB Draft and played three seasons in the minor league, winning the MiLB Short-Season Starting Pitcher of the Year and MiLB Most Spectacular Pitcher Award in 2008.
